If you read my last blog you know I am encouraging Resolutions around compassion and love of self. I wanted to clarify in this blog that in my experience as a human being, life coach and therapist that when you are compassionate and loving towards yourself you don't become selfish, you become more compassionate and loving towards others. I am sure all you English majors are loving my repetition. You might be wondering now well give me an example? Here you go:
I have ended up permanently dog sitting a Jack Russel. He happens to be the most needy and insecure dog I have ever seen. Not a dog I would choose on my own, but as I stated it started as dog sitting. This little dog has challenged my patience by constantly; and I not kidding, wanting attention. I was not finding any relief with all the standard ways I manage my mind and behavior. I started to read a book called "The disappearance of the universe.". One of the things discussed in the book is forgiveness. I won't go in depth but it is good stuff if you are curious get the book. Anyway, I started to be more forgiving of myself and my behaviors towards others (i.e. the dog) and all of the sudden I was finding it very easy to be around him without irritation.
Imagine a year full of peace, compassion and fun. This is my wish for you!
